Supported independent living (SIL) is the name of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding that provides in-home supports to eligible people living with different abilities to enable them to live as independently as possible.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a form of assistance that provides help with daily tasks, aimed at allowing you to live as independently as possible while improving your skills.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a service that covers personal support needs, such as assistance with personal care and meal preparation, cleaning, assistance with doctor’s appointments and attending other health-related care needs.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is provided in your home and can be utilised by individuals living in a shared space (1:3 for example) or on their own (1:1 care)

Please note that Supported Independent Living (SIL) or SIL Houses funding does not cover expenses such as rent or daily necessities like groceries, internet, electricity or furniture. Some people may also be eligible for SDA (Specialist Accommodation Funding) for the actual house, this is not the same as SIL.

SIL is best suited for those with high support needs and who require a significant amount of help, generally more than 6 hours of care throughout the day

SIL funding is an assessed item in your plan. SIL funding is funded on different ratios depending on care needs. The amount of funding available varies significantly depending on the care you are deemed eligible for.
